Van Gogh’s Starry Night

If you’re looking for some classic starry art to adorn your astronomonster’s bedroom (as opposed/in addition to science fantasy art), you could always look for a print of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.”

It shouldn’t be hard to find one. This popular painting adorns all sorts of merchandise, like notebooks, pillows, mugs, and bags, and even baby blankets and clothing. You could decorate a whole room based on “Starry Night,”or build a wardrobe, or sprinkle it in throughout your whole house/life if you wanted.

No? How about just having fun playing with it. Check out this interactive animation of “Starry Night” made by Petros Vrellis. In this interactive animation, the user can see the painting flow along its brush strokes and alter the flow with the touch of a hand. You can read more about the technical aspects of the animation here. If you want to play with it yourself, keep an eye out. As far as I can tell, it doesn’t look like it is available for us yet (let me know in a comment if I’m wrong and where to find it), but the creator wrote on his Vimeo post,

“Due to large number of requests, I am currently working on porting this application to iPad and android.”

I’m looking forward to it–and I think my astronomonsters will love to play with it too.
